Mauritius ranked Top African country in terms of Globalisation according to KOF Index

Accoring to the 2014 KOF Index of Globalisation regrouping the world’s most globalized country, Mauritius has been ranked Top African Country in terms of globalisation in front of South Africa, Morroco, Tunisia, Egypt, Nigeria and so forth. The KOF Index of Globalization measures the three main dimensions of globalization namely on economic,social and political grounds. Data are available on a yearly basis for 207 countries over the period 1970 - 2011.

Economic globalization measures the economic flows between countries in terms of international trade and international investment and the restrictions to trade and investment such as tariffs and capital controls.

Social globalization captures the extent of personal contacts across borders via travel, migration, remittances, and other means; the information flows between countries through television, internet, and mail; and the cultural proximity of a country to other countries via the access to international movies, music, and other media.

Political globalization measures the number of embassies and high commissions in a country; the number of international organizations to which it is a member; and the number of UN peace missions the country participates in. Also included are the number of treaties signed between two or more countries since 1945.
