The construction work of the 223 social housing units in La Valette is progressing apace and will be completed around November 2023.
Conceived by the NHDC to provide decent shelter for around 200 families in La Ferme, this Rs 554 million project covers an area of 18 acres. It includes 115 houses in Valletta 1 and 108 in Valletta 2.
The units, of 66 m2 each, will comprise two bedrooms, a dining room, a living room, a kitchen, a toilet and a bathroom. There will also be a small patio and a parking space.
To date, around 43% of the work has been completed on the first site and 33% on the second.Construction should be completed in two months’ time.
This project will provide a home for some 200 families who have been living for years in precarious conditions without decent housing.
Steven Obeegadoo, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Housing and Planning and Minister for Tourism, and Alan Ganoo, Minister for Land Transport and Light Rail, visited the construction sites at the beginning of September.
