A well-deserved retirement under the tropical sun

Published on the

Mauritius is one of the rare countries which can legitimately pride itself on being a safe haven for foreign retirees. In addition to its heavenly setting, the island has a very pleasant climate, a state-of-the-art health system, social, economic and political stability and state incentives.

Here are some guidelines for a sound investment in the heart of the tropics to enjoy a well-deserved retirement in complete peace of mind.

Retirement permit: Easy as pie!

Obtaining a retirement permit is a very smooth process. All you have to do is reach the age of 50 or more and have a minimum annual income of 40,000 USD received outside the country. This sum must be transferred to a Mauritian bank account. Valid for three years, this retirement permit offers the possibility of obtaining a right of permanent residence. This becomes almost automatic with the possible acquisition of a property under the IRS (Integrated Resort Scheme), RES (Real Estate Scheme), PDS (Property Development Scheme) or SCS (Smart City Scheme).

Tax domiciliation

Long story short, it is not a coincidence that Mauritius is a very popular destination for European retirees looking for a second youth!
