A South-African mass distribution giant is coming soon to Bagatelle. The already existing mass merchandisers are not left behind with development projects planned in different regions of the island.

Investments in the mass distribution sector are increasing. The projects are competing with the implementation of Pick N Pay, a South African giant which chose Mauritius for its first outlet outside sub-Saharan Africa.

It is at Bagatelle, between Reduit and Montagne-Ory that it will be launched. Ebene, Flacq, Trianon and La Gaulette will also witness changes with the realization of other shopping outlets development projects.

Pick N Pay’s direction signed, this week, an agreement with the Bagatelle real-estate development project’s promoters, namely ENL Property Ltd and the South-African group Atterbury. The supermarket will be one of the main shopping center’s tenants. The Pick N Pay construction work will begin during next year’s first trimester.
The supermarket shall open during the last 2011 trimester, coinciding with the shopping center’s inauguration, which will host a second supermarket.

Regarding existing mass merchandisers, developments are also planned.
Ebene Way will complete its extension phase at the end of 2010. The supermarket will be expanded to approximately 50% in order to meet the increasing market demand.

La Gaulette will also have a larger supermarket due to the hotels development and villas constructions as well as marinas in the Black-River region whereas Winners is planning to build a second supermarket in Flacq.

Expansion Strategy

CentrePoint under construction at Trianon is a British supermarket, while it neighbor, Shoprite Hyper, mentioned its intention to export itself at Value Center, a future shopping center in Rose-Belle. Yusuf Sambon, the director of Lolo supermarket at Plaine des Papayes is following its trail and is planning a construction project in the future in a Plaine-Wilhems’ region.

Discussion will also be carried with Shoprite Hyper as well for a probable implementation at Bagatelle but they have not yet been completed.
This region will witness a number of developments.

Mauritius represents excellent opportunities for Pick N Pay to expand thanks to the business climate.” Says Hilton Dukes, Broll’s Retail Director.

Integrated Towns

This South-African company is in partnership with the Mauritian company Foresite to attract other renowned clients at Bagatelle. According to Hilton Dukes, about fifty probable clients signed firm agreements with Broll for the purpose of their implementation in the Bagatelle commercial complex including KFC, Diesel, Quicksilver and also South-African brands such as Ocean Basket, Platinum and Dischem.

Two restaurants already confirmed their installation in the commercial center.
With Pick N Pay’s arrival, the integrated town’s development project at Bagatelle proposed by the Espitalier Noel Ltd (ENL) group, in partnership with Atterbury Invesment Holdings, is starting to take shape. The town, constructed in several parts will also comprise of a Motor City, offices, residential properties and of a commercial space dedicated to automobile.

Bagatelle – Commercial city dedicated to automobile. It will be grafted on the new ENL Property’s satellite town and of its new South-African partner Atterbury, at Bagatelle, between Reduit and Port-Louis. The city will be located on the left of the development project at the same level of the bridge which will be build to link the two parts of the site which are separated by the Reduit Motorway, going towards Port-Louis.

The companies project concept at Bagatelle is to develop, over 100 hectares, belonging to the ENL subsidiary, Mon Désert Alma Ltd, a commercial center of 40 000 m2, an office space, residences and the last imagined component, a motor city.
