The African Development Bank (ADB) has launched for the first time an opening index on visas in Africa.

While Seychelles are on the top of the podium, Mauritius ranks ninth. Since the adoption of open visa policies for African visitors Mauritius, there was a positive impact on investment, economic competitiveness and tourism. Rwanda, ranked tenth, is in the same situation. As highlighted Moono Mupotola, head of the division of NEPAD, Regional Integration and Trade Department of the ADB, the liberalization of visas encourage the mobility of talent and business opportunities.

For ADB, African countries should encourage their regions not to impose visa, seek greater reciprocity and introduce more visa on arrival policy for Africans.
