Power efficiency, an essential goal
Power efficiency will, of course, favoured and bettered by the intensification of actions towards a greener Mauritius.
Custom taxes on fluorescent lamps and on equipments which require LED lamps, including street lamps, will be abolished.
Solar water-heaters will hence be subvention up to Rs 5000 per unit for 50 000 additional households; this represents a cost of Rs 250 million.
A Rs 32 millions subvention will be granted to the CEB to provide to each household 6 energy-saving bulbs at Rs 30 each, hence doubling the objective of the preceding disposition from 1 million to 2 million bulbs.

Figuring as the Energy Efficiency Management Office prerogative, the elaboration of standards for solar water-heaters, electric household appliances, and the introduction of a classification system based on the European model for air conditioners which are the greatest energy consumers.

Buildings being huge energy consumers, the green building is, hence, a decisive factor in the betterment of our power efficiency. A “green performance framework” will be elaborated for public buildings and will take into account power efficiency, the reduction of greenhouse gases, renewable energies, the reduction of waste, water management and air quality.
The Energy Efficiency Management Office will provide, for this purpose, prototypes and shall coordinate with the construction sector’s protagonists to promote the green building. This collaboration aims to sensitise the public and to ease the exchanges and the technological corporation with foreign countries.

Beautifying the environment:

The government will commit to develop and to implement the new ECO-Village concept which consist in a multidimensional program aiming to revitalise our villages and coastal communities and to protect the ecological integrity of sensitive areas. Rs 250 million will be allocated to a first phase of the projects in six villages, namely, La Gaulette/Le Morne, Trou D’eau Douce, Pointe aux Piments, Souillac and Vieux Grand Port. The installation of drains better the environment and the protection of families in risky zones such as Vallée des Prêtres, Amaury, Petite Julie, Plaine des Roches, Grand Bois and Camp Diable.
