Why subscribe to a Home Insurance?

Whether you are a landlord or a tenant, how pleasant it would be to have a roof over one’s head. However, life is fraught with difficulties especially in Mauritius being prey to tropical cyclones during the summer season. Moreover, floods are becoming frequent as a result of global climatic changes, not to mention thunderstorms and landslides.

Natural calamities are countless and unpredictable, so are disasters, particularly fires. In such cases, houses with all belongings are bound to be completely lost. Everyone is at risk, especially during burglaries.

Because of all these, it is strongly recommended to subscribe to a Home Insurance which remains the best way to protect your property as well as your personal belongings, as the saying goes: prevention is better than cure.

In Mauritius, insurance companies offer several different formulas tailored to meet customer needs and situations, whether they are landlords or tenants. While houses are insured, some insurance companies insure objects, sports and leisure equipment, family jewellery in case of loss or accidents. There are also companies which insure objects wherever they are found in the world.

To be reimbursed, there are steps to be followed. For instance, in case of a fire, the fire services should be informed immediately. In case of a burglary, the police should be informed accordingly. A complete list of your stolen objects with their approximate values should be remitted to them. Inform your insurance company and liaise accordingly with the insurance representative during his site visit. A claim form should be handed over to your insurance company.

These steps may differ according to different insurance companies and it is recommended to contact your insurance provider for additional information. Among the different insurance providers offering home insurance coverage in Mauritius, we have Mauritius Union.
