To do list: Prepare your move out with confidence

Published on the

You feel panic since you are about to move out? Relax! We’ve prepared a to do list in order to avoid unpleasant surprises during this special day. Find below our tips for optimum organization to avoid stress, unnecessary expenses, and the drama to be overwhelmed by boxes! Follow the guide...

1. You have two options: rely on your own resources, such as your family to move out, or call in professionals. The first option is suitable when your budget is limited and you do not possess lot of furniture and personal belongings. Don’t forget to hire a van. On the other side, the service of professionals is often expensive, although it’s more simple and reassuring. After you have selected a mover, negotiate the fees.

Our tips:

  • Estimate the volume of the household goods to be moved. For example, start with the living room. Write down everything you see: sofa, table, chairs, plants, etc.
  • Once your list is ready, get several estimates and contact different service providers. After selecting a mover, negotiate the price.

2. Arrange for your mail to be forwarded. Check with your local post office or download the form Request for Redirection available on the official website of the post to forward your mail. Communicate your new address to your friends and the necessary institutions (banking, insurance, etc.).

3. Boxes: no need to worry for boxes if professionals are taking care of your move out. However, if you are moving on your own, you can collect boxes in supermarkets. Once filled, think of listing the objects stored in each of the boxes, and carefully labelled the fragile objects. With the use of a marker, carefully list the contents and the room where the box should go in your new home on both sides of the box. Sure this this step may take some time, however, you will soon discover how it is useful for a successful move out when unpacking the boxes.

Our tip:

  • Make sure to check the robustness of the boxes.
  • Never take too big boxes: the more you try to fill them, they will be more voluminous. You may experience back discomfort afterwards!
  • Place the heaviest objects on the bottom and the lighter items on top in order to balance the weight of the packages.

4. Sorting : since you are moving out, take the opportunity to sort your items and keep only important documents. Get rid of objects you no longer need. Ensure that your valuables are secure. It is so easy to lose an important paper or a valuable jewel when moving out, so be careful!

5. Prepare a box “special moving in”: Imagine: you will lack courage to open the boxes after having moving them all day long from one house to another and go back and forth by car. You may choose to do it on the next day. So, the clever thing to do is to prepare a special box with the following items: essential toiletries, clothes, some food and drinks, a charger for the phone, household products and a few basic dishes…. everything you need to start your new life in your new house!

Our last tip:

During this special day, stay cool… Moving out should be a source of joy, not a source of stress!
