If the locals often complain about the cold temperatures, the Mauritian winter starting in May pleases visitors who do not like high temperatures but who still seek some sun. This winter similar to some European summers is perfect for those seeking less aggressive climates. Visits to the capital city are thus more agreeable. The cyclonic season being over, visitors will not have to fear any tropical storms and will enjoy peaceful holidays. The nights can be rather cold hence nightclubs and pubs experience less affluence during this period. Mauritian eastern waters can be quite chilly due to the windy weather prevailing hence bathing is not advisable, though surf enthusiasts may appreciate the waves. Northern beaches are warmer and more welcoming, rending bathing agreeable. In Mauritius, Labour Day is celebrated on the 1rst of May. On this day, excitement animates the country as not only is it a public holiday but, as per the Mauritian tradition, many political meetings are held in the different towns. The roads are thus noisy and packed as supporters proudly display their colours.

In June, the days are shorter and cooler and this month hosts the Music Day. The music lovers staying in Mauritius for the occasion will be pleased as several events are organised around the country. This celebration is a perfect occasion for tourists to appreciate local music during local artists’ performances. Concerts, festivals and parties are organised in order to honour the Mauritian diaspora.

July is one of the coldest of the country but still attracts a number of tourists. In fact, the windy climate entails beautiful waves in the west of Mauritius, attracting many surfers. For the Muslim community, the month of July symbolizes the end of the Ramadan as they celebrate the Eid-Ul-Feitr which is the most important event of their calendar.

August honours surfers in Mauritius. Even though it is the coldest month of the year for Mauritians, August welcomes board lovers on the Mauritian western beaches. Some rain drops and cold winds may be felt but there is no risk of tropical cyclones. Europeans are pleased in Mauritius in August as they benefit the sun and the beautiful waves without the aggressive heats of the Indian Ocean’s summers. Thus, visit the capital city is much agreeable as it is known to be one of the hottest areas of Mauritius. August is calm in Mauritius as no major event is held during this month.
