Scuba diving in Mauritius

Published on the

Due to its abundant ecosystem, Mauritius is one of the most preferred spots for scuba diving. Each region has its own specific features allowing the discovery of the island’s seabed under different aspects. The Mauritian depths’ fauna and flora allow an immersion into a colourful and endemic environment. There are several diving centres in most of the coastal regions of Mauritius, each one of them offering different types of scuba diving for different prices. Note that the average price of a scuba diving session is of Rs 2500.

The North
In the north coast of Mauritius, scuba diving allows the discovery of a fascinating aquatic life. Its multicolored corals and its artificial reefs are enchanting and captivating. The northern coast waters are much appropriate for initiations and trial dives as they do not exceed 13 meters in depth. Le Méridien hotel at Pointe aux Piments offers scuba diving sessions through the Easy Dive center. Those willing to go scuba diving at Balaclava may visit the Turtle Bay Nautics center based at The Maritim Hotel. At Grand Baie, the Mascareigne Plongée center will take you to explore the northern seabed.

The West
In the west coast of Mauritius, the brightly coloured corals and the caves offer a wonderful show during scuba diving sessions. The luckiest ones may encounter dolphins which are often present in this region. At Flic en Flac the Nemo Diving Center based at the Sofitel hotel offers scuba diving services. The same applies to the Tamarin Ocean Pro Centre at the Tamarin Hotel.

The East
The Mauritian east coast’s waters are much favoured by thrill seekers and expert divers due to their heavy currents. Its luxurious lagoon is filled with multicoloured fishes and aquatic invertebrates which can be admired during scuba diving sessions. The Constance Belle Mare Plage hotel at Poste de Flacq welcomes the Blues Diving Centre which will take you for an immersion into the Mauritian eastern depths. At the Touessrok Hotel at Trou d’Eau Douce, the Pierre Sports Diving Centre is in charge of scuba diving sessions. At the Emeraude Hotel at Belle-Mare, scuba diving sessions are proposed by the Dive Passion Ltd Centre.

Surf in Mauritius
The Mauritian western region is the most appropriate for surfing in Mauritius. Tamarin and Le Morne beaches are well-known by worldwide surfers. This region’s windy climate entails wonderful waves, ideal for board lovers.

Beginner? No problem. The Tamarin Surf School welcomes novices of any age. Professionals are here to teach wannabe surfers the techniques and the rules so that young and old alike can enjoy the western coast’s waves.

Those who prefer Le Morne beach may learn aquatic sports at the kite surf school found there. Le Morne Kite School ensures initiations for beginners as well as material rental for professional surfers. Kite surf is taught as from Rs 3400.
